Caring for your knife or end-grain cutting boards is crucial to maintain their beauty and functionality. Here are some key points to ensure the longevity:

 

KNIVE CARE

  Regular Cleaning:

  • Clean the knife only with water and if needed dish soap, then immediately wipe it dry with a cloth.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scouring pads that can damage the knife.

 No Dishwashers:

  • Never put the knife in the Dishwasher!

 Rust Prevention:

  • Over time, the knife will develop a patina. This is completely normal and does not affect the knife's performance.
  • Avoid leaving the knife in moisture.
  • If the knife is not used for an extended period, consider applying camellia or balistol oil to protect the blade surface.

Cutting:

  • Use the knife only on suitable cutting boards made of wood or plastic to preserve the blade's edge. Best would be end grain cutting boards.
  • The cutting edge has been ground very thin, so it is advisable to use the back of your knife for lateral movements. This helps preserve the sharpness and integrity of the blade and prevents chipping.
  • Do not cut or chop bones or other hard objects unless your knife is specifically designed for it.

    CUTTINGBOARD CARE

     Regular Cleaning:

    • Clean the cutting board immediately after each use with mild dish soap and warm water.
    • Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scouring pads that can damage the wood.

    Avoid Dishwashers:

    • Never put your premium end-grain cutting board in the dishwasher, as the high heat and moisture can cause the wood to warp and crack.

    Proper Drying:

    • Dry the cutting board thoroughly with a clean, dry towel after washing to prevent water absorption and warping.
    • Allow the board to air dry in an upright position to ensure proper ventilation.

    Wax/Oil Treatments:

    • Apply a specialized cutting board oil or Oil/Wax finsih like Woodbutter regularly to keep the wood hydrated and prevent it from drying out. This will also create a protective and water-resistant barrier on the surface of the cutting board.

    Temperature Awareness:

    • Avoid exposing the cutting board to extreme temperatures, such as placing hot pots or pans directly on its surface, as this can cause the wood to crack.
    • Store the cutting board in a cool, dry place when not in use.
